Paradise Parrot
Over 100 years ago, an Australian parrot believed to be extinct was rediscovered on a grazier’s property in Queensland’s Burnett district. This was the beautiful Paradise Parrot and its rediscovery in 1921 marked a fleeting return; the last confirmed sighting was in 1927. This species is now the only mainland Australian bird species listed by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as extinct and is an important reminder of the fragility of our environment and the species that inhabit it.
