Australian Logrunner
Bring Down the Birds features the Australian Logrunner (Orthonyx temminckii) on tonight’s episode. Logrunners are found on the east coast of NSW and Qld, preferring sub-tropical and tropical forest. Although quite capable of flying, these small birds are predominantly ground-dwellers, foraging for invertebrates in the leaf litter that accumulates on the forest floor. They are known to leave a trail of small, cleared circular depressions (approx 150mm in diameter) in the debris, in areas where they have been foraging.
