Satin Flycatcher
The beautiful Satin Flycatcher (Myiagra cyanoleuca) is the Bird Of The Week this episode. This is a migratory species, spending winter in Northern Queensland and Papua New Guinea, and breeding in the south (Vic, Tas and eastern SA) in spring. Satin Flycatchers spend quite a bit of time foraging in the mid to upper canopy of tall eucalyptus forest, so they are sometimes challenging to see without binoculars. However, they have a distinct buzzing call and a cute little tail wag. If you become familiar with both the call and the tail moves seen when perching, you’ll be able to recognise this species even from a distance.
