Episode 52 – Sampling the Samplers!

On Episode 52 of The Big Note I once again dip into the art of sampling. Since 1928 when Fritz Pfleumer developed paper tape coated with iron oxide powder and soon after BASF started manufacturing magnetic recording tape based on Pfleumer’s design, along with the work of early Musique Concrète pioneers such as Pierre Schaeffer, it was inevitable! We look at the sampling magic and mastery of artists such as Jean-Michele Jarre, Daft Punk and Australia’s own The Avalanches. Along the way we also play some cracking good new Australian music releases!
